Netherlands became the first foreign Firefly operator. In 1946, No. 860 Squadron MLD (from the FAA) received 15 F.Mk.I (F-1–F-30) on the aircraft carrier Hr.Ms. Karel Doorman (ex-HMS Nairana). They were used in the Dutch East Indies (1946–1949): over 2,000 combat sorties for reconnaissance and strikes against separatists during police actions. By 1947, 40 FR.Mk.4 (K-31–K-70), 14 NF.Mk.5 (K-71–K-84), and 4 AS.Mk.5 from Canada were added. In 1955, 23 aircraft were added to VSQ 7 for New Guinea (against Indonesian aircraft). Served until 1961 on Karel Doorman (R81, ex-HMS Venerable) for patrol, ASW and SAR duties.
